Part-time Vegetable Worker

We currently have a vacancy for someone to join our friendly small team at Linscombe Organic Vegetables, which is a family run farm.  This role is very varied, but the primary responsibility will will be picking and packing a wide variety of vegetables that are grown both in polytunnels and on a field scale.  This is a great opportunity to have a physically active job and become involved in a local, ethical business and communicate your enthusiasm for local organic food to customers.

This vacancy is a part-time, permanent position and is available immediately. It is important applicants understand this role can evolve over time to suit the particular skill set of the successful applicant, in which case the job description below and the hours required are a guideline only. Job Description

Preparing and packing our entire range of vegetables for Farmers’ Markets and Box Scheme.

Harvesting crops from the polytunnels and fields

Growing and maintaining polytunnel and field crops

Manual handling and lifting of crates of produce

Assisting keeping the pack house and surrounding areas clean and tidy 

Liaising closely with other team members at all times, yet able to work upon own initiative

Possible attendance at Farmers’ Markets, including setting-up the stall, produce presentation and serving customers (depends on applicant skill set)

Undertaking other farm duties as required (this may involve field or farm maintenance work)

Covering the roles/duties of other members of the team during their annual leave or other absence


These roles require

A belief in the principles of local organic food production

Good self organisation

An excellent eye for produce quality control and the ability to present produce attractively 

Ability to work efficiently to tight schedules to ensure freshly harvested crops reach the customer in excellent condition

An understanding of basic food hygiene

A flexible attitude to work

Physical fitness and ability to tolerate and work in all weather conditions

Experience with fresh produce/horticultural production is preferred 

Full driving licence

Fluent English speaking essential

Salary  Negotiable according to experience and qualifications.

Hours  Estimated 20 - 26 hours per week over Tuesday - Thursday

Usual hours 8am to 4.30pm (half hour unpaid lunch-break) but early starts may be  required if attending markets or summer picking.

Flexitime and/or additional hours can be expected at peak times.

Should any applicant require more hours, extension of working hours to other days may be possible, depending upon the individual’s experience and skill set, and after a satisfactory probationary period.
